Our Approach

GrowthGate follows a ‘buy and build’ strategy that seeks value creation by increasing scale and unlocking potential in portfolio companies through serial bolt-on acquisitions and strategic initiatives.

Many buyout firms adopt a pre-IPO investment approach, or an equity arbitrary play, whilst GrowthGate seeks mid-term appreciation for its investments rather than short-term gains. This model requires input beyond the injection of growth capital, including enhancing margins through operational efficiencies, adopting best practices in corporate governance, installing financial discipline and cost containment measures, optimizing capital structures, and most crucially, conducting value-accretive add-on deals to reach commanding heights in terms of market share, brand recognition and cash flow streams.

GrowthGate principally conducts ‘buy-ins’ by acquiring strategic minority stakes in portfolio companies that are usually managed by their original founders. In this manner, owners-managers remain fully in charge of their businesses, while relying on GrowthGate for strategic initiatives, corporate counseling, and transactional capacity. This allows owners-managers sufficient elbowroom for steering day-to-day operations, focusing on organizational enhancements, and unlocking inherent potential.

The ideal timeline for reaping the benefits of this ‘buy and build’ strategy is usually a 3 to 5 years.

This mid-term, well-charted path leads to the realization of investments either via a strategic sale (i.e., to a corporate or financial buyer) or an IPO.

We partner with the best owners-managers in any given sector or industry. By leveraging our intellectual capital, transactional core competencies, and extensive regional network, we aim to generate superior returns for our shareholders. We sustain the value creation process through active involvement in the portfolio companies’ strategic directions and via full alignment with stakeholders (owners,managers, employees, communities). We target direct equity investments in companies ranging in value from $50 million to $200 million, and seek to acquire a minimum of 25% and up to 50% of total capital. Our unwavering objective remains to turn successful local businesses of today into future regional champions.
